Shelley-Anne Douglas

Shelley-Anne serves as Lead Governance Professional for the Cardinal Newman Catholic Educational Trust, leading the strategic development of governance across our family of schools. Her role is central to ensuring that our Board and Local Governing Committees operate with clarity, integrity and alignment to mission.

Shelley-Anne is responsible for delivering the Trust’s Governance Improvement Strategy, strengthening systems, structures and standards so that governance across the Trust is consistent, compliant and mission-driven. She oversees governor recruitment, induction and retention, ensuring that each Local Governing Committee is equipped with the skills, formation and capacity required for effective Catholic leadership. She also leads the Trust Clerks’ Forum, working closely with clerks to secure high-quality practice and coherence across all committees.

A key strand of her work is the development of Trust-wide policy systems and governance processes, including the centralisation and streamlining of statutory documentation to support clarity, transparency and accountability. Through this work, she helps safeguard both the operational effectiveness and the Catholic identity of the Trust.

Governance within the Newman Catholic Trust is not procedural — it is purposeful. It protects mission, secures accountability and enables strategic ambition. Shelley-Anne’s work ensures that subsidiarity, stewardship and servant leadership are not simply principles, but lived realities in how we govern.

Shelley-Anne brings extensive experience from senior roles in procurement and contracts across the public and private sectors, as well as leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility, where she developed community and environmental initiatives and staff wellbeing programmes. She is also Chair of the Local Governing Committee at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, a volunteer with the Julian Trust supporting those experiencing homelessness, and an active member of her parish community.

Her professional expertise, combined with her deep commitment to service and Catholic education, strengthens governance at every level of our Trust.
