Darren Jones MP
Darren Jones is the Member of Parliament for Bristol North-West.
In the House of Commons, Darren is the Chairman of the Business and Trade Committee. In this role Darren leads Parliament's oversight of the Business and Trade Department, its Ministers and officials and the regulators, executive agencies and arm's length bodies sponsored by that department. Darren is also a member of the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy and sits on the Liaison Committee, which scrutinises the work of the Prime Minister.
Prior to his election in 2017, Darren was a commercial solicitor working in the energy and telecommunication sectors. He worked at Womble Bond Dickinson in Bristol before becoming an in-house counsel at BT plc, where he was responsible for consumer, data and privacy law compliance.
"I’ve been involved with several primary schools in Bristol over the years, as a local authority governor and chair of governors. Now that my children have started to attend one of the primary schools in the Trust, I wanted to get involved again. The Trust and its schools educate hundreds of children every day. The strategic leadership and accountability the Trust board provides, to ensure the highest quality education possible, is therefore enormously rewarding.
As a member of the Trust board, I am aiming to help the wider board and our senior leaders to expand successfully and sustainably – to provide greater opportunities for our staff, improve standards for our pupils and to create a strong and resilient trust fit for the future".
